    Dr Nicholson is an experienced clinician in the field of musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. He has a particular interest in age and activity-related musculoskeletal conditions (eg. osteoarthritis, sarcopenia, osteoporosis) and exercise interventions to combat these conditions. His PhD research assessed the effectiveness of resistance training and balance based interventions on balance, strength and body composition in adults aged 55-85 years. His research continues to examine the effects of novel exercise and motor imagery interventions on the function of middle-aged and older adults.
    Dr Nicholson's other research focus is enhancing the evidence base of swimming Paralympic classification systems.
