Professor Susan Edwards is Director of Early Childhood Futures (Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education); and Director of Digital Foundations (Digital Data and Assessment in Education Centre), Australian Catholic University. These programs investigate digital and non-digital play-based pedagogies in the early years. Professor Edwards has completed work as first-named Chief Investigator on two Australian Research Council (ARC) grants, and on a third grant as the second-named Chief Investigator. The first project examined play-based learning in early childhood education settings; the second established the characteristics of converged play pedagogies in early childhood; and the third, the role of play-based learning about sustainability for increased health and wellbeing outcomes for young children. Professor Edwards is currently the first-named CI on two further projects, investigating the role of playgroups in schools, and the identification of positive digital practices amongst children, families and educators for promoting best-practice technology use in the early years. Professor Edwards is also an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre for the Digital Child.
