Dr Maria Constantinou (PhD, MPhSt(Sports), BPhty, GradCertEd) is an Academic and an Australian registered physiotherapist with extensive clinical, teaching and research experience. Maria is an Australian Physiotherapy Association Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, a Member of the Australian College of Physiotherapists (MACP), a Fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation (FASMF) and a Registered International Sports Physical Therapist. Maria is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, Australian Catholic University, having previously worked at Griffith University (2006 - 2016) and The University of Queensland (2000 - 2005). Maria has served on several professional committees, including as the Executive Secretary of the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (2011 - 2019), a committee member of Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy Australia (2008 ??? current) and an Executive Board member of Sports Medicine Australia (Qld branch) (2001 - 2006). Maria was the Polyclinic and Team Physiotherapy Programs Coordinator for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, and has extensive clinical experience, having also worked at many major games including Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Papua New Guinea 2015 Pacific Games and Vanuatu 2017 Pacific Mini Games. Maria's clinical, teaching and research interests include the healthy participation in sports and exercise, the prevention and management of sports injuries, sports injury surveillance, sports and therapeutic taping, reflective practice in health education and gait and function in hip osteoarthritis, which was the focus of her PhD studies. Maria's interest in the international advancement of sports medicine and physiotherapy has seen her present in over 25 countries, across five continents, at national and international conferences, workshops, and professional development events. Maria's publications include the book Therapeutic Taping for Musculoskeletal Conditions (Elsevier) which has been translated into several languages.
