Using critical applied linguistics, and drawing on the concept of power as theorised by Foucault, this study by Kuanhathai Kuadnok examines issues of power and pedagogical practices that influenced the teaching of writing to Thai English Foreign Language (EFL) primary students. Carspecken's critical ethnographic approach was adopted to gather data. The research has theoretical significance for understanding EFL writing education in Thailand in the context of the international spread of English in the twenty-first century.
