My expertise is in mathematics education and in particular researching metacognition and the teaching, learning and assessing of real world applications and mathematical modelling. I was the President of the International research group the International Community of Teachers of Mathematical Modelling and Applications (ICTMA) from 2013-2019. I am Series editor with Prof. Gabriele Kaiser on the Springer Book series, International Perspectives on the Teaching and Learning of Mathematical Modelling. I am an editorial board member of the international journals, Mathematical Thinking and Learning and ZDM--Mathematics Education.
